Les propos condescendants du préside de Naples Aurelion Laurentiis tenus ce 2 août dans un entretien à Wall Street Italia, continuent de choquer le monde du football et plus particulièrement en Afrique. Le président du club italien de Naples avait déclaré qu’il ne voulait plus recruter de joueurs africains, sauf « s’ils (me) signent une renonciation à participer à la Coupe d’Afrique ». « Nous sommes les idiots qui payons les salaires pour les envoyer jouer pour d’autres », avait-il ajouté. Pour la Confédération africaine de football (CAF), c’est inadmissible. Dans un communiqué publié dimanche 7 août, la Confédération africaine de football (CAF) se dit « consternée par les propos irresponsables et inacceptables tenus par le président du Napoli FC ». Les commentaires de ce dernier, concernant une clause de renonciation à la CAN comme condition d’emploi, « sont susceptibles de tomber sous le coups de l’article 14 du Règlement disciplinaire de l’UEFA ».
